Struthers Shop with a Cop strives to provide positive interaction with local police officers and to change perceptions that children and families may have towards police in hopes of having safer communities tomorrow.

Struthers Shop with a Cop program gives underprivileged school aged children in the Struthers Community the opportunity to Shop at Christmas with a Struthers Police Officer, Struthers Fire Fighter or a volunteer. The children are required to purchase clothing and other necessities while shopping.

Recommendations for the program are made by the Struthers City Schools, St. Nicholas School, the school resource officer, Struthers Police and Fire Departments and local clergy. Children in grades 1 -12 up to the age of 18 will shop for Christmas on a designated day in December. Younger children will be shopped for by a volunteer.

Children who have been recommended are selected to participate in the program based on the following criteria:

  •   Financial need
  •   School attendence
  •   Positive Behavior in school and the community
  •   Criminal-type lifestyle (non-existing)
  •   Previous participation

SSWAC is operated by a group of individuals that volunteer their time to solicit donations, identify and select children, organize and conduct shopping day activities.  Shop with a Cop begins each year with a zero budget and is dependant on donations from community members and local businesses.   If you would like to help, please go to the link “Make a Donation” at the top of the page.  Every $100 donated means another Struthers child can Shop with a Cop.

Struthers Shop with a Cop is a 501(C) (3) nonprofit organization.  Donations are tax deductable.
